Leah Schanke is a children's book writer whose multicultural heritage and interest in U.S. history inspire her to write historical fiction books for children. Leah is a 12x12 2021 Diversity Scholarship winner and a PBParty 2021 Finalist.

 

Leah was awarded the 2019 Marvelous Midwest Scholarship, a full scholarship from KidLit Nation to attend the SCBWI Midwest Conference. For two consecutive years, 2013 and 2014, she was a finalist in the PNWA Literary Contest in the children’s book category. Leah volunteered to score and critique contest submissions for the PNWA Contest for Unpublished Work in both 2019 and 2020.


In 2014 the Children's Book Academy awarded her a full Andrea Davis Pinkney Merit Scholarship. She has also studied with the Storyteller Academy and Kid's Book Revisions. In addition to being a member of The Authors Guild, she is an associate member of SCBWI, Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.
